Gilmore Museum, Kalamazoo

Not much posted here so here's what we did last weekend:

Rob, Lee, Amber, Amber's dog, and I went to the Gilmore last weekend and camped on-site for a couple of nights for a double show- Saturday was the German car show, Sunday was a British car show. They had 600 cars last year for the German show ...

Re: Stuff at the Shop

Not many posts here lately, much of what I've been working on is non-VW but we did do Rob's propane tank lately, and I wrote an article for the COVVC paper so I'll post it here:

Propane Tank on a Westfalia- Renew or Replace? #185

Rob’s ‘87 Westy propane tank had an issue and wouldn’t fill, so he ...

Re: 1963 Single Cab - A.K.A. Sanford

I did some detail work on Marla's single cab I'll document here:

1. Install battery, redrill holddown clamp to accommodate wider battery. Remove and clean ground strap at connection to body. Remove clamp bolt- ends of clamp are touching, use cutoff wheel to remove material to make clamp function ...

Re: 1960 SO-23 A.K.A. Gunther

Can't do that on the floor anymore, too F'n old. Maybe if it was on a lift....

I could advise if needed, and I have lots of little parts that you might need.

Chase the spring plate bolt threads in the RGBs, use a longer bolt to start it, don't forget the lock plates, the brake line holders and ...

1.7 Bus Core Motor $250

CB code, should be a 72/73 1.7 with dual carbs and an air pump. "Ran when parked" from a trusted source, but it was stored in a damp area and moisture got to it. Spins free but has 2 stuck exhaust valves, crank end play and fw vertical play are both slightly out of spec but not wasted. I was going ...

Re: 1963 Single Cab - A.K.A. Sanford

I'm pretty impressed Marla was able to complete this by herself, very few owners would be able to install a harness and make things work correctly.

Great job!

Re: 1963 Single Cab - A.K.A. Sanford

I wrote a bunch of articles on this for the COVVC rag and sent several of them to Marla. I'll paste some of the important stuff here:

"I just finished a repair job in my shop, it’s a 50’s VW that someone (several owners previous) replaced the wiring harness in. The car had not been driven in many ...
