Testing the heating element. The yellow wire nuts and the electrical tape on the insulation mean that a PO messed with the unit. 2.jpg Removal of the bottom insulation reveals the heating element, hidden inside a tube welded to the coolant line 3.jpg you can see the tip of it inside the tube; admir...

Re: 78 westy
I also worked on the fridge. I never had a chance to try it out because the control panel wiring harness is missing. It's a simple unit that has no moving parts except the thermostat knob; the ammonia solution cycles through the tubes by gravity. I can hear the liquid sloshing through the lines; at ...

Notice the worn out splines below the threads; and the rusty area below the clip groove is actually slightly recessed from wear image013reduced.jpg The other shaft was the stuck one; splines are also damaged, and there is evidence that water infiltrated all the way to the bottom image014reduced.jpg ...

after removing the clip, I found a washer underneath image007reduced.jpg one shaft slid out with ease, the other was really caked. I sprayed it on both ends with brake cleaner and worked it for a few minuted until it came out image008reduced.jpg While cleaning the parts I discovered another washer, ...

Next step is taking linkages apart, and removal of wiper shafts for inspection, clean and lube. image001reduced.jpg Linkage arms are kind of bendy, so I refrained from prying them apart. A battery terminal puller will do the trick. The cup at the end of the puller is too big so I inserted a bolt in ...

Tested it like in the drawing above, and the wipers parked themselves. Here is the jumper on the socket. 7 resized.jpg So during bench testing, everything turned out to be working properly. Back to the original issue: slow wipers, no difference between high-low speed. Maybe the motor is weak. To eval...

This video shed some light: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ww5-pmiokc but this excellent second video really made things click, and also showed how exactly, 40 years ago, our wipers used regenerative braking technology - eat your heart out Prius! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7qJy8mYi6s Out of ...

Do us all a favor and document everything like Bruce and Chuck so we can all follow along. Good luck! Here you go, Sean :D . Some of this stuff may seem very simple but for someone else like me, learning on the fly, may be helpful! I had a few hours to myself on Sunday so I decided to tackle the wi...

Re: '65 Standard
Kirk and I discussed this without a clear conclusion. In theory.......... And they have regular panel bond, and super fast panel bond just for this that sets up in 15 minutes. How about trying it and letting us know how it works? I would speculate that the expansion and contraction rate of the bond...
