Stuff at the Shop

Post by Dual Port »

I had Joe and Jackie's bus in for oil leaks, finding a leaky oil cooler and trans input seal. All fixed, bone dry now.

On Ken's bus what are you going with in terms of the flywheel starter combo? Are you just going to put 12V to it? Or are you swapping the flywheel and starter? Also, what about the wiper motor?

Also, what's the plan for the automatic choke? Can you just run 12V to the existing 6V choke? I've noticed sometimes 6V and 12V choke units are different sizes. Will that be a problem?

Leaving the 6v starter and wiper motor alone, they'll be fine. I have plenty of carb parts, a 12v choke shouldn't be a problem.

6 volt starters love spinning on 12 volts, until they don't.

Many guys on Samba run them for years without troubles.

My 6 volt bus starter ran on 12 volts for 13 years with no ill effects. It did always make me a little nervous though. :|

Shouldn't be a problem, I have plenty of 6 volt starters on the shelf and more at NAPA. The wipers suck anyway and Rainex works just fine.

I just asked so I could read positive comments about the heartiness of 6V components! Yea, I know. It’s because they’re getting 12Vs.
It will be nice to hear the components in operation before I take my panel over to the dark side.

When I bought Aaron's old Single, the starter was burnt. New napa one lasted maybe a year or two. Sure spins over quick though!
