Great work. Kirk is an excellent "beader". He knows how to set up the gas and get the temp and wire just right. I'd have splattered the crap out of all that and have you grinding till December. Kirk's also real good at knowing how to cut the old crap out in all the right places. Some cut too much, while others not enough. He always gets it right. I've really tried to get good at welding, but it's not something I do everyday so I've never really learned how to do it right. It takes practice and messing with settings 'till you get it just right. You've also got to watch the temp of what your welding so you don't warp the panel. The stuff that he's really good at is "butt" welding. He can put two pieces together and make them one. I usually have to "lap" or "plug" weld them because I'll "burn through" two pieces placed edge to edge. He's also patient and that's important. He takes his time and constantly checks his beads and temp. I just crank it up and go! Looks like your well on your way to having a nice bus. Getting Kirk to weld it up puts you way ahead of the curve! :D That's some really nice welding! :D

I was in Vermilion Sat. 2 days later with a bunch of kids and our sitter. I was hoping to make it out but had to work.

It never looks that bad until you dive into it would be a great lesson to take away from this ;)

To give people an idea of how big a job this is/was on a split window bus.

replaced three jack points
replaced three outriggers
repaired tophats above outriggers
patched four wheel well areas ends of rockers
replaced inside and outside both passenger and drivers side rocker area
replaced front floor sections both sides
installed a poorly fitting passenger dogleg
replaced b-pillar above hinge
patched a-pillar
patched hack above fuel tank cargo floor
repaired windshield areas both front windows
replace cargo floor sections both sides
and probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting about.

We used metal that came with the bus (cheap stuff), stuff from Klassic Fab (very good stuff), AutoCraft (awesome stuff).

Had close to 80hrs of actual work.....you do the math based on your favorite shop rate.

Now it's up to Craig to massage it into something great again :D

I can appreciate what you are saying. I've restored three splits. A good rule of thumb is to take your original estimate and double it.
