I don't think I'll be needin' that on any of my busses. They can barely get out of their own way :lol:
On second thought.....with the SC's small nut tranny and the "torque monster" 1600 SP motor (57 hp) motor I think I could strap a hole shot on John Force. :lol:

2). I have everything else below fully attached arm ready to go. I also have the little spring unit. Do I just need some kind of circlip? To attach the metal arm to the pedal? Where the indentation is on the arm? Anyone know the size? WW doesn't show it.

Putting a bus back together when you've never taken one apart is tough. The PO didn't do me any favors. He marked some stuff, but that stuff was obvious. Other stuff he just marked "cab interior" or other cryptic references like that. Usually it's just a box of assorted screws, bolts and various nick-nacks. Lovely. :roll:

What are these? The bottom one's look the stricker plates, but the top ones????

What about these? Some kind of cargo strap holder? I haven't a clue. :oops:

I realize I'm "quoting" myself. (Not a good practice! :lol: )

I know these questions kind of got lost in the brake discussion. Any ideas?

#1. Yes. The lower half of the hinge should be welded to the floor.

#2. The spring is what holds the arm. Look in a < mid 60's beetle repair manual, it is the same spring that holds the cross arm on the thermostatic flaps.

#3. Tops ones are probably West bits, ask Todd. Bottom are front door striker plates.

#4. Are for child cots and many other Westy uses.


Have you installed the headlights yet? I think you have the housing to body seal in wrong. I just redid mine the other day and installed the seal with the top of the "T" facing the body. It was the only way the housings would fit.

Thanks Ted. Your answer to #2 explains why WW doesn't show a clip in their catalogue. I've got the spring, so I'm all set on that. I'll order the hinge tonight and weld it in when it gets here. I'm sure I can't find the old one 'cause it rusted away in some prior life. :lol:

I think you're right on the headlight body seals. It seems wrong to have the "t" on the rubber facing out, (that is, top of the "t" on the body), but I think that's what prevents what you see in the second photo below. I got away with the stem of the "t" being "inside" in the first photo showing the driver's front light, but you can see how the rubber buckles on the passanger side in the second photo. Once again Ted, you're the man! I appreciate the little 'split' lessons I'm getting. Makes it a lot easier to get this thing finished!

If that is a picture of your pedal you have the lower part of the hinge. The upper part for the hinge is part of the pedal and the lower part is welded to the floor. It is held together by the pin and the "L" spring holds the pin in.

You will notice as small coil spring goes over the metal arm/shaft. The end of the spring has a straight piece that then goes into a very small hole in the arm/shaft. I checked three busses, '63, '64 and '66 and they are all the same. These pictures were taken with a mirror to show the back side of the gas pedal.

This is the door stricker for an "ice pick" door latch.

It may be the screw mounting plate for the engine lid hinges

These are the bracket that support the childs cot in my '66 Westy. They may serve another purpose in your '59.

Here's a larger picture that I took with a mirror showing the coil spring that holds the gas pedal to the shaft.
