I told him to stop out at Basil's. So far he's a 'no show'. I think he's looking for a bus. His oval looks like a nice project. It's really nice paint from the pics he showed me. You just have to put it all back together.

Alright, I haven't felt like a LEAKOILER in nearly a year, but I'm getting close. Dan ("Lurch") really stepped up for me on the cab windows. I just didn't have the time or the "press" to mess with them any longer. Dan, and his boss, at "Al's Glass and Radiator Service" in Elyria, really came through. I tried to give them the old vent wing seals that I couldn't get in for months and then 'bit the bullet' and ordered new ones from WW. Dan got them in and finsihed up my windows for easy install. Great job Dan! I owe you at Basil's!

If you have a glass project you don't want to deal with, or can't, deal with, I recommend Dan and "Al's Service". Very fair and good quality work.

Between dealing with family issues and a new kitchen install, I finally got the floor in the bus. I should have gone for a more stock appearance, but at this point I'm beaten down and just want a running, functional bus. The "88 cents each" tiles at HD were acceptable to me.

Dale at Dale's VW helped me save the sub-hatch hardware. The SO-23 site in England wanted $100 for a stainless replacement on the roof hardware. Don't get me wrong, the stainless stuff is well worth it, but the kitchen is bleeding me.

Here are some pics...

Outside bolts will need paint, but are saved...

Dan saved this "blast from the past" on one of the cab slider's. (Ok, let me know, should it stay or go???)..

tent mounts ( I hear ya Kirk!)

I even have a spare Buzzard sticker if you need one Sean! The flooring looks FANTASTIC, as does the rest of the bus! Your hard work and devotion SHOWS! :)

I think you made the same mistake I did when assembling vent wings and put the rain channels on wrong side. I think long side goes on bottom. I did not change mine once I got window together because of hassle.

Yes, you're probably right, but I'm happy with the outcome. I'll live with it.

I was so frustrated in not being able to get the vent wing seals in myself I just 'threw n the towel'. Dan (Lurch) then stepped up with his employer, 'Al's Glass', and got it together. I guess the next purist can fix what's done. Again, like you, I figure why fix what's a pain and essentially works?

I'm probably not going to be driving in too much inclement weather anyway!

Now I know why so many just tape off vent wing seals when doing repaints. They are a real challenge.

I probably should have taken Kirk's original advice offered 18 months ago. "Slap a battery in it and get it running, you can fix stuff later". Good advice not taken is still good advice!

Hey Sean,
The bus is looking great!!!

Ya, I have to agree you need tent mounts.. Do you have some and need to mount them or are you looking for some??

Figured, I'd ask.

BTW- I'd keep the decal.

Appreciate it, but Kirk hooked me up last year on the mounts. I've just got to re-drill the holes.

Sean,

You need to notch the seal at the bend in the door top. THis will keep it laying flat and not looking funky when the top is installed. Also did you cut the drain holes in the door top rubber?

Awesome, now you're down to the small detail stuff which takes time but doesn't have to be done right away. I'd say get it rollin' and take care of the monor details and debugging in due time. Looks like you're almost ready to roll :D.

As alwys, you are welcome to use the lift and whatever else you need at my shop as needed.

I'll try to get over to your place Friday - will call first.

I feel your pain with home remodeling projects, I remodeled the basement this winter and am now working on painting the floor and walls in the garage and sealing the decks. It's really interfering with my more important projects at Meister Rd. :(
