Now that the kitchen is done, Mrs. G is talking about new curtains...for the bus!

I've got to talk to Kirk about that yellow UV resistent marine material that only people on Marblehead seem to know about before she races off to Jo Ann Fabrics.

Shhh! Let Mrs G do her thing! Darn nice of her to validate your bus work efforts there!
I had to make my own curtains with safety pins. :?

Well, I'm trying to solve the fuel issue. The bus is not getting gas. Spray a little starter fluid down the carb and she jumps to life. The points, coil, valve adjustment and timing all look good. She has spark.

I crawled underneath this morining and messed with the fuel tap lever. You can see in the pics below there are two settings. For lack of better terms, I call them "up" and "down". In either setting, I can't get a flow through the tap to fuel pump. I have an in-line clear filter under the bus between the tap and engine tin, but it is bone dry. So the tap isn't letting fuel run and the pump isn't gettting any fuel.

Yes, I put the screen sleeve and the little red rubber gasket in the tank before screwing the tap in. There is at least a gallon of fuel in the tank, but I can't figure why it wont run into the hose in at least one of the two tap settings (reserve). I thnk Kirk can verify we blew through the copper (brass) tubes before install.

Is there more than one way to put those taps back together?

While I figure the fuel issue out, I got the "cave man" wiper system back together. I think I'll need some guidance on how to adjust them to the "parking" setting. These early buses have a real "stone age" wiper system. It's basically two wire arms that snap onto the wiper shafts and then hook on the back of motor. A real pain to put together, not becase they are complicated, becase they are so darn hard to reach! Here are some pics for future reference.

Here is the fuel tap in the "up" positon

Here it is in the "down" position

Here is the "dry" in line filter

Here's the Barney Rubble 6V wiper motor

I got the last pop out window in and went with a non-correct big spoon latch for mazimum air. I have the original for the stock nazis down the road

screw the vintage nazis i like the spoons!

Thanks Bob! I'm all about the increased air flow the spoons bring!

Yea, I need a "Ted" moment. I just know I'm going to take that fuel tap off to figure out what's wrong and have gas running all over me while I do it. :( No way am I pulling the engine and tank over this. I'll pull the fuel line off the end of the tap and see what happens tomorrow after work. This thing is ready to roll if I can get this sorted out. (At least till I discover the next problem! )

The tap might be clogged with something. Take your fuel cap off and blow some compressed air in the fuel outlet.

You might need to put more fuel in too. Try another 2 gallons. The taps don't pick up the last bit of fuel in the tank.

As a reminder, for the sake of safety, disconnect the battery ground strap when working on the fuel system. :)

A Mighty Vac http://www.compacc.com/p.cfm/c/1804005/p/544 might help get gas flowing. I have used them for brake bleeding before. Just a thought.

If I remeber correctly, the owners manual says that the "reserve" side of the lever provides aprox 1.5 gal of fuel. If that is the case, only the reserve should be working with 1 gal in the tank. I'm with ted, blow it out with 5-10lbs of air from the outlet side. The mighty vac seems like it would work also. Put another gallon in and see what happens. Also, disconnect the cable from your reserve tap and see if it moves further in either direction without the cable.I have had problems with the cable operating the lever when installing a new cable.

You can also try disconnecting the fuel line at the fuel pump and blowing back to the tank with compressed air and you should hear the air or fuel bubbling at the tank filler inlet.
