Re: Corona 3rd Thursdays

How about CLE area folks meet at MetroParks Lakewood (mouth of Rocky River) where we start the MetroParks Cruise and take Lake Road out past all the homes we wished we owned? I'm in. What time do you want to meet at the boat docks? I'll be wearing a mask and bringing a lawn chair to make it easier ...

Re: '65 Standard

While the motor is out, might as well change the leaking DP boot that acted up on the Mohican trip causing a no-idle complaint. P7230076.JPG You can see where I put some RTV on it to buy time. P7230078.JPG P7230079.JPG All done, put about 70+ miles on it yesterday and today. Runs and shifts perfect,...

Re: '65 Standard

Time for something to laugh at. The trans I had built was an early 60's 6v, probably a small nut, and I put big nut axles on it but my 12v flywheel won't fit in a 6v bell. You know what comes next, the Hillbilly Bridgeport. Weapon of Mass Destruction. P7210034.JPG P7210052.JPG Tape up the ...

Re: '65 Standard

Changing the axles/RGBs is dirty, nasty, greasy work. Disassemble, scrape the gaskets, wire wheel (throwing crap everywhere), solvent wash, then brake clean before RTVing it together for final assembly. I've done this a few times and I'm never looking forward to it. Note shit everywhere and the tarp...

Re: 1960 SO-23 A.K.A. Gunther

Looks like a nice brake kit and new kingpins is a good idea, I'm sure you'll be really happy with how it drives. Keys are a problem for me, Bus 1 uses 3 keys  and Bus 2 doesn't even lock. Honestly, I never lock either one anyway as they're so easy to break into. Bus 1 and 2 use different ignit...

Re: Sean's '59 Panel

OK, the dry run went great, let's do the real deal. I miked everything and it was great but Plastigage tells the real tale. It's a thin plastic thread that's bolted in between the bearing and the crank and how much it "squishes" out tells what the clearance is. The rods were all right on target, bet...

Re: '65 Standard

I've been really busy at the shop but haven't posted much, just completed 70 hours of stuff on a '68 Vette but that doesn't belong here. Jim's Custom finally got my tranny done so I picked it up at the show Saturday. It needed the normal stuff, a couple of synchros, 1st gear, bearings, etc. I'm spli...

Re: 1957 Oval

Sean didn't need the step stud, his exhaust stud merely unscrewed, it didn't pull the threads out. I cleaned things up and screwed the stud back in. The cooler, on the other hand was done. A quickie air test showed a big hole rotted through it and would have been pouring oil out. The hole was...

Re: 1957 Oval

In my experience, if the cooler is wet it's the cooler as airflow won't bring oil upwards if the seals are leaking. If you want to bring it out we can do a hillbilly pressure test of it. I'd change the cooler and probably the tranny shaft seal too. If it's the same as later trannies I should have it.

Unfortunately, VolksFest has been canceled this year for all of the obvious reasons.
