Re: '66 Deluxe

I'm thinking for typical VW restoration a 110v machine would be just fine......

Re: '66 Deluxe

The guy I bought the Miller from was very cool- an older guy, very experienced welder. He says his work bought him a Millermatic Autoset and he loves the thing, it compensates the speed and heat for the thickness of the material. I was originally concerned that it was just one more thing to go wrong...

Re: '66 Deluxe

Yes, the other welder is a Lincoln Handy Mig, which is their entry level model sold at Home Depot and not at the "real" welding suppliers. The guys at AGA laughed when I asked for a liner and other things as this model doesn't get much respect, I was hoping to support a Cleveland based bus...

Re: '66 Deluxe

I got lucky and scored a great deal on this Millermatic 135 off of CL, I saw it listed just minutes after the guy put it up. First come, first serve, they guy said he could have sold it a dozen times, it was $400 with the tank and cart and has low hours. It welds MUCH better, I am happy![img] I thou...

Re: '66 Deluxe

Nice progress Bruce . That bus is lucky to have found you for sure . Are you going to be doing the painting as well ? Or farm that part out ? I have the ability to put down a "decent" paint job, maybe 6-7 on a 10 scale, "probably" good enough for the bus. I've probably painted a...

Re: 67 Deluxe

Very cool! Now my bus will have a little brother to play with....

I'm impressed with how complete it is, and not "messed with". It also looks like it's a lot less rusty than mine.

Good Job!

Re: '66 Deluxe

Onto the right rear corner. I still needed to push out some previous body damage, so a 2x4 with a slot cut in the end worked well for pushing right on the seam where the metal was pushed in. I put the 2x4 against the spot and "work" it with a hammer until it's flush. It was probably pushed...

Re: '66 Deluxe

I have an auto helmet but it's the standard small window, not the full face window, and it's ten plus years old, maybe even fifteen years. Maybe I should look into (haha) a new one.......

Re: '66 Deluxe

Sean: You haven't seen my welds close enough to judge them, and they suck. I have plenty of issues with hand/eye coordination, steadiness of my hand, burning through, no penetration, wandering off course, etc. I'm not young and my eyesight shows it. I can't count how many times I'm welding along, fl...

Re: '66 Deluxe

OK, here's what's going on lately: I got a lot done, pretty much finishing the cargo door/right floor/right rocker area. I did a lot of fitting and welding and I'm happy with how things look. The doors look and fit very well. Everyone knows the tip of fitting a piece by making a cardboard template: ...
