Re: Randy's new 79 bus

I have done many of the rear side 1 piece windows. They are a bear. The good news is they are temper glass. I have wailed on them with a rubber mallet and a 1in rubber pad. Never broken one. I can't say the same for the windshields.

Re: Randy's new 79 bus

Looks great. How did the windshield install go? We had several experiences 2-3 years ago where the reproduction had to be ground. This was discovered after proffessional glass guys broke a few and figured it out.

Re: Randy's new 79 bus

depending on what you clear coat them with, it tends to yellow. I polished mine about 15 years ago. A six pack and a can of neverdull and they shined like chrome. They are not as shiny now but still look real good.

Re: The "Lurchmobile"

Connecting pipes from HB to flappers are not the same for 72-74 and 75-78. 79 is a 1 year htr box and the connecting pipes may be the same as 72-74. I will try to get some pics up. 79 has Vanagon sq port exhaust. 72-74 boxes can be easily modified to work on the 79 but not the other way.

Re: Uncle Howie's Spaghetti Warehouse

When you go to weld those pipes,I believe they were stainless. Not certain about the flange at the head. Also I did not see any hangers or support brackets for the exhaust, some of the leaks were prob caused by stress fractures and not rust.I like Don's thoughts about being lucky and have the studs u...

Re: Mechanic Needed - 78 Bay

I think your on to it being a timing issue, or at least ign related. It did backfire. It needs fuel and spark to backfire.I would still want to check fuel pressure.

I know you said that you do not a a garage to work in but, take advantage of the current warmer temps and stare at the inside of your engine comp. Follow Rand'ys suggestions. If you are going to drive this YOU HAVE TO BE AT MINIMUM , familiar with how it works. As this was Dan's bus I am a little fam...
