Finally getting back to this after my 1-1/2 year gig at the Republic Steel Lorain Restart Project and a 3 week vacation out west. At least now there are more wires under the dash than on the floor. Everthing works except the emergency flashers and the windshield wipers(they suck anyway!). Very tedious and time consuming job, but it has got to be done to make it street legal.

Ken, Ive been somewhat putting off the rewire job on my bus as well... Is the bus staying 6 volt or going to 12v?

Sweet! Hope to see on the road soon! Did you get the interior together?

Thanks Rick, it will be on the road in the spring. No, I don't have a camper interior in it yet. The original interior that came with it is pretty ratty and I haven't decided what to replace it with yet. It will be a panel van for a while.

I also don't have a problem with 12V. Maybe down the road :?:

This thread is way past due for an update. The bus made its debut at the Cleveland Metro Park Cruise in the spring, probably put on about 300-400 miles since then. The more I drive it, the better it seems to run.

A few weeks, I got a complete interior, in fairly good shape from a 1978 Westfalia that Helmut and Chuck were parting out. I wasn't sure if it was going to fit into a split bus but thought it was worth a try.
Sure enough with some minor modifications, it fit quite well. The width was almost perfect but the sink cabinet had to be shortened by about 3 inches. Except for the color, I think it's going to work very well. I like all the open space in front of the doors compared to my SO-42.

The Vegas bus came with a black steering wheel which was standard issue for a panel van in those days. Also had a white steering wheel on the shelf from a 64 deluxe bus that I parted out years ago. Thought it was time to kick the bus up a notch with the deluxe steering wheel.

Got out the Bentley Manual and they showed that you need a special puller from VW to remove the steering wheel.

I didn't have a clue where I could find the special puller adapter so I decided to make one with some scrap steel and Unistrut I had laying around the shop.

It worked like a charm so I thought I would pass the idea on. I also like the look of the whit wheel much better than the black one.
