1967 Beetle aka The Ebay Bandit

Post by blue71 »

Picking it up tonight using a tow bar borrowed from the guys at Air Cooled Express in Bennington, NE.

EDIT: I'll be giving it to my mom for Mother's Day and as incentive to recover from her hip replacement. Plus she always wanted to buy the one from her uncle, but he sold it to a cousin who destroyed it back in the 70s. She also told me now that if somebody wants to buy it, I can sell it because it'll be so long before she can drive it. Hmmmm. It may have a sign on it at the Nebraska show....

3 new tires by the PO, 1 in my backseat on a rim I bought
H case 1500sp runs but the carb is toast. I have a good one on my desk
Brakes are all supposedly brand new with receipt
Electrical works minus the wipers being really slow
Door windows are iff for up and down
Titled in NE, so need to take care of making it OH
heater channels ok for now, but show some age

I need to get a lot of the paint fixed so photos can be submitted for insurance.

It has tags from last fall, so the lady probably isn't lying about driving it up until August when her son passed away.

I'll probably flip it or give it to my mom after she heals from the hip replacement surgery she had last week.

Thanks Craig and Sean. I found this one on ebay classifieds when I got home from being out with friends. I just wanted to look at the darn thing, then the owner never really got back in touch with me so I wrote it off. David (busjunky) and I talked about it and he was intrigued. He helped me out by emailing them on ebay too since I never heard back from them.

So the worst part is the paint and the bottom plate of the heater channels. The doors open and shut alright, but in a few years it'll need them. The owner before the lady I got it from attacked it with sandpaper or something in addition to it sitting outside in the sun forever. There are tiny hail dings and some filler in spots. It's also dirty as can be, as it was sitting since August in a garage.

Speedo doesn't work.

I got it to run with the carb from my coffee table. I bought the last Nexen bug sized tire in the western world from Walmart's warehouse Sunday and got it Monday.

Oh, and I need to track down some running boards to replace the original ones.

Nice job! My first VW was a '67 Beetle I bought in '77, just when graduating HS. Many fond memories in that car.......

It'll be looked at sometime next week to see what it needs. Some of the photos are a bit blurry, my apologies.

What color is this thing? I think maybe lotus white with a respray of some sort. One of the Omaha VW Club guys said Ivory. I have no clue but would like to find out ASAP so I can try to get a bit of touch up done. The paint inside the front hood isn't really brown/dark enough to be savanna beige.

I worked on playing with the paint today in the afternoon after helping friends move and got sunburnt. The weather said cloudy, nope. Sun and 85! Hopefully the photos are good enough and not blurry this time. It's probably L87 pearl white. I did some touch up with lotus white, so it's not perfect when looking at it close :(

I forgot to bring the used running boards I got from one of the VW shops in town to install. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow...
