Re: 1961 Microbus
got 6 hours in yesterday. new total 147
stripped and painted some engine tin, changed fan shroud, installed flaps and stat, wire wheeled and painted heat exchangers. changed and gapped plugs, changed wires.
engine is in.
still need to install muffler and heat exchangers, plumb fuel, and connect electric lines.
then tune up, adjust valves change points rotor cap condenser, set timing..........
anyone have a set of bottom tins for a 1600?

The engine is in? I'm thinking the motor is coming back out to change those tins.....

Re: 1961 Microbus
Heat exchangers are still off, they go under jugs and screw in from bottom.

From the top, depending on the front tin might be covered by it too.Mike Kever Kombi wrote:Heat exchangers are still off, they go under jugs and screw in from bottom.

Re: 1961 Microbus
Would it not be better to use J-tubes to replace the heat exchangers. I did this on my Bus because heater did not work all that well anyway.

Yes, that is certainly an option. I have the heat exchangers already, and they are in fairly good shape. At this phase i am trying to keep everything stockish. Regardless of set-up, i still require the tin.
Maybe i will steal them from the wife's bug and replace before she knows they are missing.

If you use the correct tin from a Thing or industrial engine this is OK. You lose a lot of cooling air if you just add Jtubes with the stock tin designed for heat exchangers.
Re: 1961 Microbus
Mike, I am sure I have a set or two of the tin you need, and you are welcome to it. I will double check when I get home tonight.
