Option 1- find a 40hp breather like Ken has pictured above. Does anyone know if it will fit the top of Marla's generator stand? (it should?)

Option 3- weld a hose nipple on your air cleaner and install a breather hose
Option 4- buy the air cleaner linked in my previous post.

Option 2 might be a little dirty- venting the fumes like that might build up an oil film in the surrounding area. It's a quick fix, though.
Yes there is a 5/8 hose nipple on the oil filler/breather as well as the air cleaner.

I'm glad you chose to get the correct air cleaner, that's the best way to go. There's a bracket that's homemade on your engine that supports the air cleaner, in a perfect world that could be upgraded to a used German one. Keep an eye open at the swap meets or get one off Samba, here's a couple of links to ones listed:

$20-30 seems pretty pricey, I'd think this is $5-10 tops at a swap meet. Maybe 6v, Ken, or someone here is sitting on one.

Lol. Yes that bracket was “temporary” too. Bruce, stop calling out all my flaws. Jeez... :lol: Gunther’s going to get a complex about his rear.

The first one listed is for Fresh Air motors and you should get the support finger too so the coil mounting nuts don't pull out or crack the shroud.

GUNTHER SHOULD ALSO BE EQUIPPED WITH THE 12 VOLT SILVER STICKER FOR HIS SHROUD. HIS REAR NEEDS TO BE READY AND QUALIFIED TO PASS INSPECTION. (DUAL PORT, FIRST-RATE AND VERY THOUGHTFUL HELP.)

Wow, it has been a long time since I have posted an update to this thread. Not entirely due to lack of work being done, just nothing big or worthy of a post.

I decided to ride out COVID 19 up here in Ohio in lieu of being in FL. I am working from home, so while I am here, I figured I'd get back to a project I intended to start 4 years ago. This past weekend I started cleaning and prepping under the front wheel wells. My goal is to clean and seal the surface rust that is under there. As you will see, this was a much needed project to get to.

All in all, it is pretty solid, I was happy with that. No holes in the metal but some Bondo in the area near the jack points. It felt solid and there isn't a lot of it, so I decided to leave that alone.

So far, I cleaned a very hard and thick layer of dirt and grease from the underside. I used a scraper, Zep Purple cleaner and Pine-sol to get it cleaned. I brushed on some Etch and Prep and let it sit over night to seal the rust. Next will be to wipe it down, let it dry and then 2 coats of primer. I will have to wait for the temps to get a little warmer, or put a heater out there to paint.

That looks like the stuff Sean. They may have changed the label? The bottle I have says Phosphoric Etch and Prep. The directions for rust on metal and prep looks the same. Don't forget to use PPE with it.
