I can't believe how long this thread is, and he hasn't even worked on the bus yet!

Edit:

This site shows a '66 Deluxe costing $2317.50 FOB Hannover, Germany.

http://www.1966vwbeetle.com/1966%20VW%2 ... 20List.htm

Not many options available, but AM was $74 and AM/FM was $127, which is crazy money for that time, probably a month's pay for some!
According to the bureau of labor statistics, and using the consumer price index, $2300 back in 66 has around 16k buying power today. Granted the actual MSRP was only 2300$, but just something to ponder.

Can I count time for standing in line at the title & license bureau towards total project hours?

1 hour ;)
No you can't, that goes under the administrative/research category. If I included that in my total mine would be 2000 hours.

You're back at 0 hours. :)
What are you waiting for? Rip and tear!

I don't agree with that at all. $2300 in 1966 is probably 25-30K today.

Cost of Living 1966
Average Cost of new house $14,200.00
Average Income per year $6,900.00
Gas per Gallon 32 cents Average
Cost of a new car $2,650.00

Started working on the 66 yesterday evening.

Engine is out and gas tank was dropped off to Dan today.

Waiting on parts to arrive to redo the brake system.

Still has the factory rev limitor in place. That is probably the original motor for that bus. Were you able to verify that yet?

It is not the original engine. Has an AE code stamped on it.
