Check the weld on the metal clutch cable guide tube to frame, they break...

Congrats On your first drive! Your grinding and shifting problems are probably due to you shift linkage adjustment. Play around with shifter location and verify your clutch cable is working properly.

Thanks Rick. I think you were right. I made some adjustments and now there is much less grinding. Still needs some fine tuning though.
The brake grinding was caused by my new backing plates and new drums rubbing. According to my research the spacer inside the rear hubs changed in size and I should have replaced it with a new style one. I got a new style backing plate and drum but still had the old spacer. I ground off enough material so they no longer rub.
Having some alternator issues though. I believe it is harness related. My original harness was cut up so i bought a used one. Looks like I will end up rebuilding one of these or buying a third one.
Re: Austin's 1977 Tintop Camper
What's the issue with the alt.?
Re: Austin's 1977 Tintop Camper
No voltage to the battery. 26 volts measured at the post on the alternator. I need to repair or replace the cable going from the alternator to the starter obviously, but not really sure where to go after that.
Took the bus to my parents house for them to see it.

Re: Austin's 1977 Tintop Camper
Look closely at wiring diagram for alt/reg. I will try to post a pic today. There is a blue wire that dangles near the regulator. It is the excitor wire that goes to the lite on the dash. Alt will not charge battery if this is not connected.
BTW. Congrats, you did it

Thanks guys. I never could have done it without all of your help.
About the blue wire: its connected and the alt light functions correctly. I fixed a bad splice and now I'm getting about 12.8 volts. Still seems low.
The bus really swayed on the highway during my drives on Friday. I took it to work with me on Saturday and installed my new Koni shocks and a new Cofap steering damper. Rides way better now. Also washed it and put the hubcaps on.
