Finally got around to putting in new sliding rear windows. Rather had new windows put in. I was afraid there was some rust in the channels so found a body shop through the Cincinnati VW Club that was up to the task. I took out the rear cabinetry and took it over. Turns out there was rust in the left side rear and rear hatch. Right side was okay.

I knew Sweet Pickle had been repainted on the outside turns out it was a bit off from the original sage green.

Re: 76 Westfalia Sweet Pickle
While the cabinets were out I thought I should repair all the loose laminate and trim. Some contact cement and a lot of clamps.

Re: 76 Westfalia Sweet Pickle
Tried to repair/patch some of the chips. We camp in it a lot so need to be perfect. Just don’t want them to get worse.

Getting better as I go.
Cut out the chip to get cleaner edges. Then find a piece that somewhat matches Spare tire cover. Chip was on the bottom right corner

Re: 76 Westfalia Sweet Pickle
While I was at it decided to try and fix the intermittent water pump switch. In case you ever wondered how it went together. Mine was just dirty. Soldered the wires and cleaned everything up.
Cleaned it up and put it back together. I thought working on the kitchen sink in the house was hard, hardest part was getting at the nut to take it off. Oh, yes also be very careful with the larger of the two springs. I tried to clean it with the dremmel and shot it to who knows where. Luckily I was able to cut down one from a pen and it worked fine.1967 Beetle "Little Tud"

Re: 76 Westfalia Sweet Pickle
Had the back hatch interior panel off and had always wanted to make it so we could unlock it from inside. Most things I read had put a cable or chain on it with a ring on it. Once I saw it I thought I would do something different. Took some threaded rod , bolted it through the hole that was already there (you need to use the outside hole, if you use the inside hole it could interfere with the outside push button latch) and then attached a door lock knob that I cut down. I think it will look pretty good. Will take a picture once the panel is back on. Going to clean and lube the lock mechanism before I put it all back together.
