2nd annual "Camp Qwesty" - "Bourbon, BBQ, & Caverns"

Post by T-3 »

Happy Holidays Leakoilers!

Get Ready!...Several Leakoil members are again teaming up for the 2nd-annual "Camp Qwesty" camping cruise. We are planning events early this year, to allow ample time for recruitment. We will also extend this invitation to other nearby VW clubs. This year's theme is "Bourbon, BBQ, & Caverns". Please plan to join us, as we travel in caravan style through Southern Ohio, Southern Indiana, and Kentucky!

Mark your calendar for launch on Friday (27-Aug-2021) and return on Sunday (5-Sep-2021). We will publish the final route, and an exciting schedule of events very soon.

This is not an official Leakoil event, but you won't want to miss this!

Looking forward to another great bus and van camping cruise!!
It will be difficult to top last year but the schedule of events being developed could do it.
Great to have a fun trip to look forward to in 2021!! Can't wait!

Yes, we're at it again. This year's trip was a blast- one of the best vacations I've ever taken. Here's our tentative schedule:

Depart About Friday, August 27, 2021 in the early or mid morning
Lunch in Columbus at Schmidt's
1st night at Cincinnati
2 nights in Louisville
3 nights in Bowling Green, KY
1-2 nights in Lexington, KY
2 nights in Hocking Hills (Ohio) on the way back
Return Labor Day Weekend

Things we'll hit are:
Cinci: the American Sign Museum https://www.americansignmuseum.org/
Mammoth Caves and other caverns
Corvette Museum
Bourbon Tour stops (Jim Beam and Maker's Mark, and perhaps others)

I'm sure we'll be adding other stops as we gather information. Suggestions are welcome!
We'll be driving ALL BACK ROADS at reasonable speeds- averaging 50 or so. This was a great point of our last trip as it allowed to "see the country" rather than seeing the white lines of a highway. It's also much easier on the equipment. Stops are frequent for pics, restrooms, food, etc. The back roads of southern Ohio and KY are beautiful! I'm really looking forward to this. Yes, the map shows a thousand miles and 25 hours, but that's over 8-10 days. The longest leg is Day 1 getting to Cincinnati. The biggest problem we had on the last trip was a bad load of diesel fuel.

There will be some community meal prep and some restaurants, so solo cooking will not be common.
Everyone is welcome!

Here's a tentative map:

I might be in. Depending on how vehicle upgrades go I might bring the truck or need to ride shotgun.

Hello Leakoil,

The camping season is approaching, and this event will NOT be cancelled! We'd love to see our fellow Leakoiler's on Camp Qwesty! Get your bus/van in gear, so you can hit the road with us this August.

Somebody made this flyer to provide the pertinent details.
