Many thanks to Bill and Marla for all they do running the club and keeping us active in these crazy times!
Special thanks to Bruce and Mike for being our 'on scene' leaders and organizers for this event. This was the 11th year for the Metroparks Cruise. In light of that, I guess its time for me to take you down memory lane...
The MetroParks Cruise was originally conceived as a COVVC (North) event. The only trouble was there were only two visible members of that group. Bruce and Mike.
Well, word spread around that they were trying to have a cruise, so LEAKOIL showed up. And that was that! While Mike has always been a COVVC guy, Bruce came over to the dark side and bought and restored not one, but two, buses!
That first year in 2010 we met at a pavillion near Sagamore Hills in the Brecksville Reservation and traveled East to West ending at the Cornerstone brew pub in Berea.
It was the worst cruise ever!
It wasn't for a lack of effort. What no one appreciated was the volume of major North-South cross streets that would interupt the crusie on its trek west. We went about 2.5 MPH the whole way! Widefive loved it!
The other crazy thing about the at first year was you had to formally register!
Well, needles to say that didn't last!
Anyway here are a couple of pics from that first cruise back in 2010...
A few splits showed.
Everybody get registered!
Aaron couldn't wait to get started!
My pully sheared off from the crank at he end of the run!
If I had just kept my speed down to 2 MPH instead of the 2.5 MPH we were doing, I might have saved the pulley!
I went home and grabbed another pulley and Aaron showed me how to remove the crank nut by holding the nut with a huge cresent wrench or pipe wrench and cranking the motor for a second!
The next year (2011) the cruse was moved to its current North South run from Lakewood to Strongsville eliminating most of the cross street interference. Admitedly, the cruise is a bit of a 'dog and pony' show, and not particularly challenging, but its purpose is to get everyone out and together after the long winter and reaquaint everone with each other.
Despite all the Corona drama (or perhaps because of it) we had what seemed like a record turnout this year!
So thanks to all who came out. Even those who just came to the lot to say hello! This is why we have a club like LEAKOIL and why it seems to grow and evolve every year!
So here are a few photos from 2020...
So, who's having another kid first?
(Oh, there's that super friendly dog)
Matt Keith's bus engine is so Corona clean. You can eat off the engine in this bus.
Parking lot
Honorary Grand Marshall made an appearance
Old school bugs were a nice addition!
Tim and the "Woodstock" bus made it up all the way from Mansfield.
We don't have enough red vehicles. Red is the new sage green.
Phyllis stopped by with her super well behaved dog!
We even had a Porsche show!
WSD and Fernando had awesome splits
Love the color.
I think we call this Thinge 2
