Trailmix Beetle

Post by trailmix »

Hello Everyone!!! My wife and I had a great time meeting a lot of you at the Christmas party this weekend. It's a big sigh of relief to know that so many people are so passionate about the VW scene. After purchasing our 66 Beetle, I soon found out that the VW shop that we go to does not work on the older air cooled VW's. Obviously this is our first car project and the Beetle is something of a life long dream to own one. We have only owned the car since late October but we really enjoyed the time that we got to drive it. It's now hibernating in the newly insulated garage and the repairs have started. We want to drive the car as much as possible in the summer so the only thing left mechanically is to fine tune the engine. A couple of stutters and low on power seems to be the small issues we have but it gets around town fine. We are currently looking for a local (Cleveland area) shop or someone that is willing to look at the car and give us some direction. I can do most of the work but not sure where to start. Any help or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks again for the warm welcome from the ones I met at the party. Looking forward to meeting most of you soon!!

If all you need is some tuning you should be able to DIY. All you need is the a Bentley manual, some basic tools and advice and encouragement from Leakoilers.

Welcome Keith!

We used to have a spring tuneup day, a day where everybody would gather and fix their VWs. The vast knowledge of the secret seven elders would be passed down to the less fortunate.....or they would just drink beer.

I think it might be ripe to have it again this spring. :?:

As much as I hate working for free, tune up day was always a good time. Would be nice to see that come back.

WELL, I might have to arrange that for this year. I was going to set up a dyno day,but I guess we should "Tune Up" first.

Yes I do!
I am deep into the John Muir book and learning a lot about our little project. Waiting on one more part from a parts dealer (no names please, but I'm not happy with them) and the front end will be almost new. Then on to the interior until I can gain enough confidence to fiddle with the engine. I'm having a blast renewing my relationship with my tools again.
