Looking good nick

it's ready to go in, just need a piece of rear tin and to put the breast plate tin on

A big thanks to AJ for the right piece of tin. It came in the mail, got a quick shot of black paint and the engine was installed. Just a note to everybody who might not know this, there are 2 different heights of single port oil cooler seals, one being a smidgen taller than the other. I had both heights in my random gasket box. The short ones must be for early stuff, as I had a leak after installing them. So the engine had to be pulled and the taller ones swapped in. I have no oil leaks after a few hours of break in time in the parking lot today so that makes 3 VWs of mine that don't leak any oil to mark their spots, and a spare engine that doesn't either

Now I have to sort out the vacuum and booster stuff and put my rebuilt 34 pict on it. Then I'll rebush my 30pict that's on it, either with brass or maybe with some real bushings after they arrive in the mail

Careful! Every VW owner on the East Coast (Ost Coste?) will be camped out on your doorstep wanting help with oil leaks.

It was a very large parking lot. It even had its own Rest Area.

That would have been a pretty crazy ice obstacle course! We let it idle in the parking lot for a couple hours, turned it off for a bit, then let it run some more.

Richard's bus is there so it does kinda have a rest area


After the hellish rear main leak with the other engine that was in it, this is a miracle.

Here's a rundown on the engine:
1968 single relief Beetle H case, std
std German crank from my pile
new/rebuilt rods, std
stock cam with dished gear, std
new wider oil pump
stock rocker arms, valves/springs, lifters
new heads, fresh valve job
new p/c 1600cc (still had ink numbers on them)
solex 30pict until I put on my rebuilt 34pict
009 until I redo the dual vacuum can dizzy I found in a box that matches 1971 buses
new German stock muffler and j tubes since the heater tunnel tube is gone
Bosch plugs, wires, coil, tuneup parts
lifetime warranty generator from Autozone
lifetime warranty starter from Autozone
stock clutch/pp salvaged from old motor

The new parts were salvaged from leaky engine. It looked to have very, very low miles but a bad align bore, crank turn, or something that caused the thing to leak like it was shot with a .45

They better stay out of the tire and rim swapping line you guys want me to put in too

With my lack of leaks I'll probably be banished to somewhere like Alaska now eh ?
