What type of mattress are you going to use on that platform? I hear memory foam gets really hard in the cold and becomes unbearable to sleep on and an air mattress never gets warm. Just curious what you are planning to use.

I bought something similar to this. SInce I hate camping, I only used it once. It was (is) a good product. Sometimes you can find them cheaper.

I use a hospital bed mattress pad that's part gel and part regular foam. They're $100-150 online, I bought it at a garage sale for $10. It's only about 3-4" thick but very comfortable, even after 7 straight nights on the last big trip.

One problem on the Qwesty trip- the fuel pump pivot pin fell out on the way home. Not a big problem, it took about 20 minutes to diagnose and repair it since I had a pump and tools with me. Oddly enough this is the THIRD time on three different vehicles this has happened in the last 10 years! Once I returned home I put a bolt in it (with a dab of weld) and reinstalled it.

I by chance bought one of these when I was having issues with the OE pump on the truck. Comes with e-clips on the pivot pin. I read chatter on Samba about a 39mm PICT so I thought I'd give it a shot, I know Ebay would refund my money if I wasn't happy. For those not fluent in carbs, that means the venturi is 5mm (almost 1/4") larger than stock, which flows much more air. I bought this and installed it to replace the 34PICT and it works great, and gives at least 5+ HP, enough to feel. Really surprised at how well it runs, the only minor modification was the fuel inlet was setup for 1/4" hose rather than the 5.5mm that VW uses. It is a no-name Chinese unit with nothing cast into the carb at all.
Most of the adjustments had to be tinkered with, which is expected. It comes with a bunch of different size jets, I thought a 138 would be a good place to start so I pulled the main jet and it has a 138 in it. I've only put about 50 miles on it, but the 1904 loves it!

For $100 and your time and expertise, I'd say that's a great investment!
So you threaded the housing itself or inserted a threaded insert?
Would all the other components from a Solex/Brosol 34 fit into it? Float, jets, choke etc.
Curious if the body is wider so as to cause "fit" issues with those running alternators?
