Wow, another great trip with the weather gods smiling upon us! We departed Rob's house on Friday, Aug 19 at 9am and caravanned to Tony Packo's for lunch. We accidentally met Craig Klinger when we were up there. Arriving in Detroit for Woodward Dream Cruise we saw all of the cool cars you'd expect to see plus more. I was interviewed by Detroit Channell 7 ABC news, the second time this has happened!

We had EXCELLENT deep-dish pizza at Loui's Pizza, I think the best I ever ate.

Sunday morning we went to the Ford Piquette plant, where Henry built cars from 1904 to 1911. Great history there!
We also drove past the Packard plant which is in ruins, very sad to see. From Detroit we went to Frankenmuth and enjoyed German food and architecture. This month's HVW magazine has an article on Frankenmuth and a VW show that they have there.

Wednesday was a highlight of the trip, the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, where we rented 1000cc Honda machines. Regulated to 41mph, these things are a blast to drive on the dunes! Once again the weather was perfect, high of 75 and no clouds. Lake Michigan is in the background. Ron's homemade Beetle camper drew a lot of comments, the workmanship is terrific. Almost no rain the whole trip but the one day it did rain we did laundry.

Another huge part of the trip was a fishing charter on Lake MI for salmon. We caught 9 fish and had a whopper of a dinner that night! I sat that one out 'cause I get seasick. Peach Pie from Crane's is always a plus.

Man, what a trip! We wrapped up at Pokagon in Indiana for a night and arrived home Sunday afternoon. I drove exactly 1000 miles with only one minor problem, Lee drove 1128 miles, Allen 3725 miles. I averaged 20.5 mpg for the trip.
We're already planning the 4th annual Camp Qwesty for next August, central PA will be the destination. Put it on your calendar!
