Re: The UNofficial bus (stuff) for sale on CList (& others) II 2017

John Watjen was interested in this bus last week so we went out to look at it, the seller's description is accurate- typical Ohio rust in the door bottoms and etc. Some surface rust in the windshield frame but not rotted bad, if you sandblasted these spots they would pinhole. Frame and important stu...

Re: '66 Deluxe

If you ask a hundred engine builders what they use to seal a case you'll get a hundred answers and none are wrong. It's just a matter of opinion. I've used several including Curil-T which is supposed to be the cat's ass. Even when used sparingly it breaks off and gets "worms" in the oil strainer. I ...

Re: '66 Deluxe

The site's been kind of slow lately so I'll post some pics of what I'm doing. I had Tom Simpson build a 2180 over 10 years ago for my Ghia with a new case and all new parts inside, pretty stout for what it got for carburation. It has a W110 cam and CB 044 big valve heads. It probably only makes 80-9...

Re: Split Bus Project

Ugh. What's your fascination with early Beetles? Put $30K into a car that's eventually worth 10? That deserves to be in the Jay Leno "more money than brains" club.

At least with the bus above I "might" not be under water.....

Re: '65 Standard

Yes, better here and now than on KI next week. Pretty much the same drill replacing it. I noticed the clutch cable Bowden tube didn't seat right away in the picture- this explains the big "bang" the first time I pushed on the clutch. I thought something was going wrong in the bellhousing.... PA02001...

Re: '66 Deluxe

Bus 1 was running a little rough lately and had a "fast spot" while it was cranking which is a bad thing . This indicates low compression in one or more cylinders. For a quick test I put a vacuum gauge on it, and sure enough it showed a leaking valve. :( Here's a video I shot to help understand vacu...

Re: woodstock 50

Very cool. There was a 2 hour documentary on Woodstock on PBS recently that had great color footage and a great storyline about the original event. It's worth the time if you catch it.

:)

Glad your bus is running well!
