Hi Sean, Thankfully we escaped unharmed we did get hit pretty hard tho ! Young careless driver on the way back from the last show of the season As you can see bottom rear quarter short side panel, engine lid re bumper and all the innards are kaput but im lucky as have one of the best restorers in the business over here doing the work ( insurance finally paid out a cool 21K) but will be rebult with NOS parts and a full respray im also going to treat myself to correct cab seat colours and mustad vinyl for the camping interior
I need to get some UK insurance! I remember all the headaches Josh had to go through with the US insurance company and his '58.
I'm glad everyone is ok and you'll be able to restore it. So am I to understand that another bus owner hit it coming back from a show? If so, I hope he was ok and his bus is also repairable. If not, he was probably driving a Lada.
I may have some of those rear brake lenses & backup lights (used) if you don't find some over there. But I'm sure you'll get them.
Hi Guys
Thought id start a new thread here instead of jumping on Craigs one ( sorry Craig ) . We got hit pretty hard by a young careless driver on the way home from our last show of the season if he had been driving a bus i might have been more forgiving but no , he was travelling in a Peugeot 307 and admitted to my wife he was tired ie i think he feel alseep at the wheel Any after a hell of a lot of phones calls , emails to my insurance we managed to save "Oscar"from being just another chunk of salvage metal luckily i had a agreed value insurance courtesy of The SSVC & the young un was fully comp & admitted liability! the total repair bill will comes out to £21,000 yep you read right so you can imagine the damage that has been caused rear quarter, short side panel engine lid bumper etc etc all to be replaced with nos , thankfully for me my repair guy has been in the vw scene for 40 odd years so has got many contacts here & in the usa , ive managed to source a pair if bosch reversing light & also maybe some nos swf us spec tail light lenses from Tom (obsolete man) also thanks Sean for the offer very kind of you ,plus the bus is to get a new repaint all over and im going to treat my self to TMI salt & pepper cab seat covers and also some mustad vinyl for the camping interior ( any leads on this over the pond ? ) heres a few pics to keep you going i will be adding more as the rebuild progresses , its already been jigged and steve the repair guy is more then happy to see the chassis pull nice and straight
PS who do i contact re : a kellys island tshirt please also im pleased to see your forum back up and running .....good job all
Hey Craig , i suppose like me your not using the bus so makes sense to wait for a repaint, Craig who / what material did you use to recover the camping interior or is yours og ? Altho the outside of my bus doesnt look too bad ive be told its a absolute mess inside the engine bay Im just hoping the engine wasnt damaged i do know one of the heat risers has a slight crack
You can buy the material from a guy on the Samba called Major Woody, but Darren sells the covers already sewn. All I had to do was add the snaps. The material looks to me to be an exact match to the original.
