71 Squareback, car for shows but not a show car, per se...

Post by Shaka »

Some of you guys on here know me, but many of you may not. FWIW, a VERY long time ago now I met Berea Bob (westy66) back when we worked across the street from one another. He had his westy, and I was just getting into VWs (mostly watercooled at the time, however). Know a few others around here (WideFive Aaron, etc) Since then I've had more than my share of cars than I'd like to comment on, most of them of the VW/Audi watercooled variety.

Few years back I had a 70 std Beetle that I just loved. Sold it to help with a new house, a kid, and all that jazz. Missed it ever since. Well a month or so ago I finally got myself back in the position to have a 3rd car toy and had been shopping ever since. After checking out a few various cars at a few various places, I decided what I wanted was a car to take to shows, not so much a show car. Something I could cruise in with my 4yr old kid, take to the GTGs, but nothing I'd be worrying about cosmetically. Solid runner, a head turner, but not a full resto...

Anyhow, a week ago I bought THIS CAR. If you want, you can spend some time checking out the write-up from the owner before that, who had the car for a few years - LINK HERE - who did a lot of patch and repair to get the car where it is today.

I've got a few little things planned for the car, but right now the wheels are going to stay as is the stance. Biggest things going are the interior (got some Scat low backs going in, plan to do a little tweed to spice it up in there)(those red low backs were not sold in the car, I got the original tan high backs with a few rips here or there, hence my desire to change things out). Have a surf board to throw on the rack with a basket. Only other big plan is the rear pop-outs that are in transit, but the retrofit on that might wait until winter we'll see. Right now just gotta go over the brakes and get the car ready for summer time.

Hopefully I'll see many of you at the shows/events this year. I've got my calendar marked for a few of them, and I'd love to cruise coming May 5th but already have plans that day, sadly. Anyhow, just wanted to say hi.... and I'll close on one of my favorite photos from two owners ago who did most of the work to the car... enjoy!

He definitely traded up if he traded it in at Thomas Classics. They sell some nice cars.

We traded the wife's 2012 Beetle and the 1971 squareback in for a 2008 Audi TT 3.2 V6 Quattro. We drive in to work together now so the TT is the family toy and my passat is our daily. We didn't need two toys so we got one nicer one!!

The beetle was nice and fast. But the DSG SHifted at odd times and beyond the turbo lag it had other first year issues. New car stuff. Overall nice but the TT is far more fun. Quattro and VR6 will do that. Hehe!!
