Drive In

Post by dormohbile2 »

Made our first short trip last night...

Drove 40 minutes into Mansfield to take my son to the drive in to see X-Men. Das Bus drove like a champ on the back roads and kept up (sorta) with the traffic on route 30. We pulled into the drive in only to find that they had changed to Angles & demons which my wife and I had no clue as to whether it was appropriate for my 6 year old but didnt sound like it. it was still a little light out and I knew there was another drive in on the north side of town but wasnt sure what was playing or even if they were still open.

When we got there there was a short line of cars waiting for it to open. This drive in which is also off 30 a short distance has two screens opposite each other and was showing four movies. on the big screen was Angels and Demons and something else and on the smaller screen was X-men.....after the Hannah Montana movie :o .

As my son really couldnt care if the movie was the 3 little pigs or X-men or Hannah Montana we decided to stay. we got there just before dark and the movie was to start in 10 minutes.

We pulled in, opened up the back hatch and unloaded some stuff. Got some popcorn laid out the blanket & sleeping bag and watched my son run around the place having a ball. Put down the bed and waited for the movie. The bed wasnt real comfy but it was enough to put me asleep (out of my misery) for at least 3/4 of the movie ;)

By the time Hanna was over it was pushing 11pm and my son was tired so we packed up and didnt even stay for the x-men movie. Never having driven Das Bus at night, i wasnt sure what to expect. it ran great again, the headlights need a little adjusting by work fine. I couldnt figure out if the bus has high beams or not and if so, how to switch them on...The gage lights need a little improvement as i could barely see how fast i was going but they work.

It was a good time by all and we put another 50+ miles on the bus.

Always great to hear a story about a night out in a bus. Even better with family present and no breakdowns! :D

That sounds GREAT Hank! There's so few drive-in's left anymore! Your son will have a great Memory of that night! Maybe Leakoil could organize a Movie Night and show up at that drive-in outside of Elyria, if it's still open?

The drive in between Elyria and Lorain has been long gone :( , but the one in North Ridgeville, The Autorama, just off 480 on Lorain Road is still kicking :D (autoramadrivein.com). They have two screens, double features and I found out that they are charging $8 for age 12 & up, $3 for kids age 4-11 and age 3 or under free....I am not sure if they still have a single price per car load...and there is $5 per car charge if you are not going to frequent the concession stand...now how they would know, I dont know, but I suppose they depend on the "honor system" which is always enough to guilt me... :o however, I have found that their concession prices are not that bad. They also offer rental of the entire marquee which I thought was cool. You can sign up for their website and get weekly emails about events, offers and movies. In addition, they have a flea market every Sunday, open from 7:00am to 1:00pm. Free admission for buyers... $10.00 admission for sellers, with a monthly discount available. Thier concession stand is open during the flea market as well. No, I dont work there or own it, I just love to promote it because it is a rare thing anymore and I would hate to see us lose it. I dont get there as often as I like, but I try to get there at least 3 times a summer. If its more, thats better. Anyway, I just had to get on a drive in tangent!

Did they move it off the floor in 66?
The speedo gauge bulbs are easy to replace and they just pull out from back. If I remember there is one at 3 and 9 o'clock.

We go to the Sundance Kid Drive in down in Oregon OH. This was one of the reasons we decided to get a bus. Our bus does not run yet but this will be one of the first short trips we take when we get it up and running. We have a blast there and even took our two mini Dachshunds who also had a blast.
