So Ive been out of town for weeks... But i finally got back in town to get some work done. Slow but sure...
Tranny in and and hooked up brake lines and then started with the e brake cables which have to be modified a bit. Since the straight axle is different then the orginal RGB trans. Cable spacers made by W5 have to be put in to make up for the slack. Also the spring on the end of the cable has to be trimmed down almost 3 inches to fit inside the smaller drum. I used a die cutter to zip off the extra spring. Put the studs on the VW Thing drums and now I have a bus that ready for some rubber. Next is the wiring harness.

Started working on swapping out the electrical harness. And man I am going to be a happy camper when Im done. All the old wires under the dash were all painted over and it looks like a war zone. But i started by removing the wiper motor. I have the WW 12v wiper motor conversion to put in. Then took out switches and then started on the speedo. The lights in my speedo were having ground issues so i decided to take it apart and clean it up some. And i took some pictures of the speedo dissasembly. I also have to stress, Do NOT wipe the face of the dial. The numbers may or may not smear. I brushed up and sanded all the electrical connections and grounds. Took about 40 minutes all together.

Just carefully pry off the metal housing that holds the glass. Go back and forth on both sides until it pops off.

The nut comes off the bottom and that seperates the housing from the internals.

Once the housing is off you can see the little gears. Just wiped off old grease and dab on new grease.

The old color filters were burnt out so I put new ones on.

Yes, nice work. I need to take note because my turn signal indicator gel has slipped from its position. Well, maybe a winter project.

Keep it up!

So continued ripping out the old and started on the new. Finally found out why I was having electrical problems. A PO thought twisting 2 wires together by hand and the using masking tape and paper to wrap everything up. I thought I was the idiot for not being able to get my signal lights to work properly. Also took out my gas gauge and It says 6V on it. The bus is 12v but the gauge works perfectly so Im just going to leave it. I just wire brushed up the connections and gave it a quick cleaning. Then I pulled the old harness out and fed the new one through the frame rails and up into the cab. Im also using new switches and a new fusebox for safety and ease of installation.
