A couple of weeks ago I was bored and not feeling too bad so I thought I would pick away at something on the bus
I figured the cargo doors were something I didn't have to contort my body too bad to work on so I began with those

I stayed old school and did not use any of my auto darkening helmets between the new bifocals and no auto helmet there was definitely a learning curve again. It didn't go to bad so I decided to lay out some of the metal that I knew I want to do

I originally planned on doing like most and not replace the whole tophat ..only the outer edge that is rotten but as I looked at it I thought it may be easier to replace it all..since I had some left over AC metal

Take a look at where the 3rd I beam should be ..there is a tophat there.. strange to me maybe its a 67 only thing

Anyways I took some measurements and started cutting then laid it all out numerous times and finally tacked it all in

Things were going pretty smooth so I figured I might as well work while the body is good
20160109_173659.jpg
I predrilled a bunch of holes and Eric came over on Sat and we plugged some wire.

I am thinking of using this piece to repair the back of the seat pedestals for both sides

I know its not correct but couldn't care less on this pile

All in all it felt really good to get back at a project
The worst part was having to place an order for Green metal haha

Wow! That's a lot of work. It's great that it can be done and most impressive when some one actually tackles the challenge. Keep the pictures coming. Its a great project!

Had a few good days out in the shop over the last couple of weeks I finished welding all the outriggers and Jack Points in solid. I got the inner rockers in and started looking things over to see how I was going to tackle lining up he cargo doors and cab doors. I knew it was going to be a lot of on and off with doors. I began by fixing the C pillar

I am a big fan of using trammels verses just taking measurements..Luckily there are enough extra holes all over this bus that I found a couple that I could use
20160122_151717.jpg
I figured I might as well fix this first
20160122_152105.jpg

I dup through some scrap and figured I could separate the outer skin and stitch this in
20160122_152054.jpg
Once that was done I finished off the C pillar. The trammel made exact location easy enough
20160122_180325.jpg
I moved over and took a look at the B pillar..well where the B pillar should have been I ended up having to add an extension onto the inner B pillar I was just about an inch or so short. I bent up a piece and tacked it together
20160123_131346.jpg
I lost count of how many times I have had the doors on and off All of this end is just tacked as I am beginning to fit the cab doors and dog legs. I finished the short rocker I am pretty confident on the C pillar position.
I did a little test fitting of the cargo floors ...they are still half an inch short so I straightened out the end and rebent it

Did a little of work on the passenger side seat pedestal. It has some tough to get at rot
20160206_160958.jpg
I figured I would start with the easy part I cut out the bad and made a cardboard template. Then cut the new piece and put a pressing in it and added the seat belt mount to the bottom
20160206_193222.jpg
The other side of this pedestal is going to be tough to make I decided to move on to something that looks like progress

I had a full two days to spend out in the shop this weekend so I decided to tackle getting the nose back on I had a couple of small holes to fix on this really straight nose
20160214_085336.jpg
20160214_091610.jpg
20160214_111747.jpg
Not a lot of pictures but I did spend 20 hours of on and off with the nose at the end of it all I had
reached a pretty big milestone in the rebirth of this pile. The nose is back on
20160215_163452.jpg
Pretty happy ...now on to this
20160206_114200.jpg
20160206_114128.jpg
20160206_115227.jpg
or the dogleg and drivers pedestal or the window rot...or the battery trays that were put in 5 inches too low, or the engine hinge carrier plate that was put in without nut plates
