For Sale '85 Weekender with EJ22 - $13,000

Post by woodshopbrewer »

Copied and pasted from my ad on thesamba. Have had a bunch of inquiries but no takers yet.
Good deal for someone to get a great camper that could use some love. 20 mpg on the way home from a camping trip in May - all highway.

Does 70 to 75 on the highway comfortably. The odometer reads 157,xxx but has not worked since before I bought it. The EJ22 had about 100,000 miles on it when I put it in and I probably put a couple thousand miles a year. Had the heads cleaned up by a local machine shop prior to installation.

Purchased in 2015 and stored inside each salty Ohio winter, though it does have some rust spots, most prominently on the driver side seam.

Handful of spare parts will go with the van, including another Subaru alternator.

Roof rack and awning brackets (not the awning) will go with it. Has a 2" hitch receiver installed (not wired for lights) we have used for a bike rack and travel tray in the past.

Things done while I've owned it:
-50AH Ionic lithium house battery (under driver's seat) to power Dometic fridge and a couple 12v outlets. Battery charges by alternator and/or solar.
-Gas tank and fuel lines replaced in 2016.
-Power steering rack replaced in 2018.
-1995 Subaru EJ22 engine swap done in 2018. Engine VIN: JF1GC6357SH514793
-215/65-16 wheels added in 2019
-SS Coolant Pipes in 2021 installed by Nordkuste.
-Rear brakes and calipers in 2023.
-2024: Front end bushings: upper and lower control arms, radius rod, sway bar, drop links, steering rack. Also, new front shocks, upper and lower ball joint both sides and tie rod ends. New front brake pads all done earlier this year followed by an alignment.

Items that could use attention:
- The poptop could stand to be replaced. My temporary screen replacement from about 7 years ago finally gave up the ghost on our last camping trip.
- Currently experiencing a random stall when cruising on the highway. Lift off the gas for half a second then slowly back on and all is well. My first thought is IAC valve or throttle body needs cleaning.
- I mentioned the seam rust on the driver side panel. There are a handful of dents and dings in the body. I can send more photos on request.
- It often stalls when coming to a stop. If I slip it into neutral and give it a sip of gas and it does not stall. From my Samba searches it does not seem very unusual, but annoying.

Always starts up again.
