73' Squareback

Post by framingsilly »

I'm going to start this project thread for my son Nick . I'm sure he will be joining the club and having some fun with his first car . We made the 180 mile trip back from Michigan without to much of a problem. The main problem I had was a loss of power at random times. I think it is a problem with the fuel injectors . (original parts probably need replaced.) The only other issue we have so far is the car is started with a screwdriver and you have to turn a switch on to run the fuel pump . So I would gather we need to install a double relay and ignition . Oh can't forgett ball joints and or tie rods or both .( it's a little wobley around 65 ). Anyways here is some pics to get things rolling.

Way to go Pat and Nick. Looks like you've got a pretty solid vehicle to start with. Is that OG paint?

Yes it's the original paint . The worst rust is were the rain gutters directs the water next to the windshield on the front fenders. We have a rust free trunk and hood that came with the car. Not to worried about the body at this point. Going to focus on the motor and mechanics for now. Body is very solid . The brackets that hold the back bumper on the frame are rusted off and I don't know what to do about that . Probably a welder is in our neer future .

That's a nice pick up Patrick and 100 times better than the one I could've landed you. Check with VWlover77 (Don) on having those injectors cleaned. I believe he used the company out of Michigan with real good turn around time and excellent results. Someone on here will post up a link to their site. Good luck!
