Re: 1973 Double Cab Project
I love that color orange. Looks like a really nice truck.
I'm looking forward to meeting you and your buses. Kombis on Kelleys is an event you don't want to miss. We have Third Thursday, a local Fare trip and Oktoberfest all coming up soon. Check out the events calendar and make it out to meet a few people.
Welcome!

Re: 1973 Double Cab Project
Do you have the proper sheet metal surround for your engine bay? (upright into a type 4 bay), those pieces are necessary for correct engine cooling... Dang gray market vehicles...
Re: 1973 Double Cab Project
Very nice busses! Try to bring one to Vermilion on Thursday, not only are we all there, but it's a BIG street fair every 3rdTh with 30+ live bands playing for free in the streets and a whole lot of people. This week will be the last one until next summer.

To all the 3rd Thursday crowd. Troy is a pretty long haul from vermillion.
Be happy we will get to see at least one of the busses at KI, and look forward to getting to "know" Rob better through the forum.

Re: 1974 Double Cab Project
Thanks for the heads up on the upcoming Thursday get together in Vermillion. I would love to come to that but Troy is bit of a haul from there, about 3 hours. Troy is just north of Dayton. Vermillion is a nice town, spent quite a bit of time there a few years back after a storm hit the "North Coast" and damaged a lot of houses. We are definetly coming to Kelleys Island in our Westfalia. My two boys are really looking forward to it. May try to make the Oktoberfest, what days would be best for that? On our way back this spring from Texas we were going through this little town in Oklahoma and there in an Autozone parking lot was a VW Show for the " Foul Air VW Club." We swung the bus around and visited for a while. Great bunch of people. I have seen your club at many shows and you seemed to be a friendly group. We have been doing the Lone Wolf thing long enough and decided to join your club.
I do have the cooling tin for the rear, just took it out to get at exhaust nuts. That is a difficult piece to find in these parts for sure. New foam seal will be installed to keep things nice and cool.
Not sure those heater boxes will be salvageable, see the pics.
Exhaust nuts came out okay on the front for the most part, studs came out on the left hand side. They were not standard either. Rear nuts are proving more difficult. Soaked them a bit more with penetrating oil and will try them later. Looks like I will need to cut the muffler where it is welded to the heater box to get it off the studs.

Re: 1974 Double Cab Project
Finished cleaning up the speedometer cluster over the weekend. Came out pretty nice. Found several photos of other late bay double cabs and from what I can tell these came with a gray face gas gauge and a black face speedometer. No e-brake light either.

Re: 1973 Double Cab Project
Rob we look forward to seeing you at KI. As far as Oktoberfest, Friday and Saturday are probably the better days. No need to do the lone wolf thing any longer, I think you will find its real easy to fit in to the club, and get "adopted".
If you need anything just ask, mostly everyone here is helpful, there are also some really knowledgable members.
