Sean,
I popped off the button and checked out the stuff under there. It looked decent, cleaned it a little. Saturday morning is a trip in the bus to Ypsilanti, MI to work Honors Orientation. Hopefully I can stop by Todd's on the way home and see about the splash pan he has from a parted out bay.

Re: Hans and Olaf
Hans has a new brake line that runs along the frame tunnel. I found that one out driving to Matus Winery, the Friday after 3rd Thursday. Thankfully it held up on the way home from Elyria and popped at a later time. It took me all day to do, but it's done now. No photos due to being filthy. The line had a hole right before it went through the front firewall, other than that, it was the original one from 71, and perfectly tarred/clipped in place. The rubber boots were starting to rot, I'll reuse them for now until I can figure out replacements. I'm also thinking about getting different carbs on it, Kadron 40s, just need to clean them up, get them working with the help of a master on here, and be goodt o go.
Olaf has a leak somewhere near the master cylinder. I found that one out when I was at EMU working Honors Orientation. There was a puddle in the front on the ground. I filled it up, limped home, and then he died on 80/90. It turns out the fiber tab on the points went bad on me. I had a spare set in my spares box and jerry rigged it and limped the other half of the way home.
Everyone loved the "Honors Bus." So much so apparently, that I have to get some photos to the publisher of one of the campus magazines and do an interview.

Re: Hans and Olaf
Nice job Nick. Being able to troubleshoot on the road is an unfortunate talent we all need to develop. You got the bus home. Find that leak and fix it. You don't want to take any chances with brakes.
Re: Hans and Olaf
With an early trip back from MI and most of a Friday spent with Aaron, Hans has dual Kadron 40s on aluminum manifolds. The engine's power has definitely increased over the 34pict. I could get used to driving something that can keep up on the road
As for the bus, I drove 6 relatives to and from Matus Winery last night. That was an interesting trip.

Re: Hans and Olaf
I have a Hans update:
I'll be getting some dropped CB spindles in a week so I can go the way of Aaron
Gives me an excuse to learn how to change ball joints (look like they might be original or maybe 1 replacement) and use the pickle fork.
The body has around 60k miles is my guess. The title reads non actual because he came with a 67 single port in him. If it were 160k there would more than likely be a lot more rust/mechanical issues besides having to redo brakes and lube.

Was looking at the Shawshank site and saw my bus in the background of a photo.

Olaf brakes
Back during Easter the seals between the master cylinder and reservoir cracked, so I had to get a tow home from Ypsilanti via rented dolly. I just got those gaskets/seals in the mail today from Wolfsburg West. I'll install them in a few weeks, after graduation. Pictures included hopefully. Thanks to Bill, Tom and everybody else helping me try to determine what sort of master cylinder I may need if I have to replace it.
I also decided to order one of the fancy fuel pump rebuild kits, pricey at $28, as compared to a new sealed pump running around $20. Again, that's a project for after graduation since I didn't keep a spare fuel pump when I brought parts home.
