We made a little more progress. I acquired a set of .060" shims for my cylinders. Then Chuck and Brandon helped me fiddle around with my cylinder heads. Pulled the valves, cleaned up some of the ports and CC'd the combustion chambers. Chuck always seems to have the right tool for the job. Tune in next week and hope to see the picture of a longblock.

We have a longblock! What a good feeling
First before assembly was the drilling and tapping of the thermostat bracket hole. The case is a late brazilian AS41 replacement and the boss is there but no hole. After that was addressed we started to assemble the 1-2 side. But we ran into some issues with the new head studs. They're a 1/4" to long and needed to be trimmed down. Especially the ones underneath the rocker assemblies. After that everything went well. Just try not leave out important parts

Great job guys. Keep it up, you'll be on the road in no time.

Finished up the top end today. Cut the steel manton pushrods on the lathe. Cutting was clean, quick, and fun
. Then a quick debur and install the tips.
Then onto the rockers, solid shafts are relatively easy to assemble. Mostly playing around with different size shims to get the right spacing to hit the valve tips in the right spots and minimize endplay.

Got a little more accomplished last night. Cleaned and painted some tin. Mounted oil the mighty T4 oil cooler and alternator stand. Next will be adding tin and setting up the T-stat with flaps.

Progress is good! Chuck pointed out that I installed one of the rocker stands upside down. So corrected that quickly and started to dress the motor. Thanks to Chuck's expertise the pulley tin didn't have to be cut to clear the full flow fitting. Just reshaped a little. Had clear some casting flash in the heads to fit the thermostat downrod. All in all everything went together well. The new thermostat from Awesome Powdercoat is beautiful and better made than the factory ones.

Well, the last parts of this builds slowly turned into a long and frustrating road...
Chuck had warned me about the huge hassle tin fitting would be and that was just the start. Almost all of the tin had to be beaten, bent, or cut to fit. The fan and alternator required more time than needed. Port matching the carb manifolds properly took a while. Changing jets and venturis in the carbs. Mount the distributor and coil. Mount the exhaust and oil sump which hang at the same level and look good. Then the 8 dowel flywheel didn't exactly want to mate up the crank and required some Chuck handy work. Set the endplay and install pressure plate and clutch disc. But its all finished now and Im looking forward to getting this motor started!
