Newbie questions

Post by Shoe in Medina »

Is there a thread that tells basic info about the event? Are there outdoor grills available? What are the bathroom facilities? Are there other important logistical items I need to know? My kids are young... is there a playground or other kid friendly things to do? Thanks.

You could sift through the 2009 & 2010 Kelleys threads and find info or a picture is worth.....http://www.leakoil.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1499

No grills but they feed you breakfast Sat and Sun and potluck Sat night.
Swingsets for kids or they just chase all the other kids around then fall asleep.
Plenty to see on the island.
Bathrooms are great with heated floors and showers.

There is even a swingset for the kids there. Afterall it is a 4-H Youth Camp. VERY child and family-friendly. As Kirk said, the bathrooms and showers are great! Excellent, in fact. For the in-between meals you may want to bring a small grill, or sandwich material for the kids. There is a hot dog roller machine up in the dining hall that has hot dogs on it for the taking throughout the day and early evening. Folks usually bring a pack of hot dogs and some buns to add to the roller machine. (If you eat a hot dog, replace it with a new hot dog) There is a walk-in cooler in the dining hall to put the hot dogs in as well. Also, a machine that dispenses free ice cubes. Bring your own ice bucket or plastic bag.

This is a perfect family event for all ages. Please remember to clean up your campsite when you depart.

Most of all, ENJOY! :D

updates

Post by wwebner »

It appears that we will have a number of first timers this year. Thought I would post some info for them.

Saturday evening is our pot luck dinner. Most have found that crock pot dishes are the easiest to deal with if you have a hot item. Deserts or cold dishes also work fine. We do have use of the 4 H's large commercial kitchen on Sat. for those who wish to prepare something on site, also a large walk in cooler is available for us. If you bring a crock pot bring an extension cord and maybe a mult strip. They may not be needed but best to have them.

In the unlikley event of inclimate weather, the large mess hall has a fire place and lots of room.
Maggie and some of the ladies are planning activities for the kids.

Watch here for further udates.

Denise and I are also planning to let the kids paint The Baron again. Hope to get them to stick with brushes this year, but plan on them getting messy!
