Strohma Split Bus Project

Post by strohma »

I've been working on my bus for more than a year now. It's actually looking like a Bus again more parts going on than coming off.
My plan is for a weekender style camper interrior modified of course. lowered with a type 3 straight axle kit. I've narrowed the beam and have flipped spindles. Motor will be a 2007 stroker. Built it last summer still waiting to put it in. Working on the brakes and cables now. Using mustang 2 disc up front with type 3 rear brakes.

Here's a link to some gallery pics I've been keeping on the Love My Bus forum.

Hope to have it on the road next fall.

Hey Kirk that door I got from you bacame the bottom of my cargo door.

Got the narrowed beam in last night. When I welded it up I tacked it on the bus then pulled it off and finished it.
I should have put some washers in between the fram when I tacked it . It went back it real hard need alittle more clearance. Now I'll finish the brakes of and then continue on the doors. Hopefully by the time I get to stripping the doors it warms up so I can primer them.

Good news finally got my bus on four wheels. Well the fronts are my daughters bug wheels and way to tall but it is rollable. I'll post pics in a few days. Son banged up the SUV so I get to fix that now.. It never ends.

Yes. If the bus is too low, it will never be able to drive up on the ramp for the ferry to Kelleys Island without scraping bottom and getting stuck. But you can always grab your backpack and ride over to the Island with someone. :)

I guess the second rendition will have to be air bags then I can raise it to get on the ferry.
Really it won't be any lower than my bug. Otherwise it would never get out of my driveway.

Got my wheels and tires on, bus sits 8" off the ground. I might need to carry long oards to get up ferry ramps or over pot holes..... ;)
Almost ready to paint just the tedious part of wet sanding an finding all the little bad spots.

8" is plenty of room you wont need any boards...you'll be able to go anywhere
